Well I have gotten a bit behind again. It's hard work trying to keep all these sites up to date. But it's time I shared some the workshops that I have had with you all.
I have managed to do 2 'On the Farm' cupcake workshops. The last one I forgot to take photos as we were having to much fun and chatting way to much. We ended up 45 minutes over our time. Never mind at least a good time was had by all.
The other workshop that I had last week Sunday was the Cherry Blossom round cake. This is a beginners workshop, and it is just great to share all the tips and trick needed to ganache and cover a cake with everyone. To see everyone's happy faces is so satisfying.
In this workshop we even had a young man join us, he wants to be able to make a cake for his mum for mothers day. Isn't that sweet. It was a very casual affair that day, one of the ladies had a young baby, but was still breast feeding, so baby came to and grandma to babysit the baby. It certainly had its moments when bubs wanted mum and not grandma. But mum managed to finish with a great cake. Well done to everyone.
Venetian Face Mask Cake
Well it took a few more hours than I had anticipated, but I finished the venetian cake mask which was ordered last week for Tuesday. The customer's daughter was celebrating her 18th Birthday and wanted to give her a birthday cake with a venetian face mask on it.
She showed me an image of a mask, that was one of the choices that the daughter had made, and she would email me the others that evening. Silly me gave a price thinking that the mask would be one of the other masks.....well guess what....it was going to be that one.
Live and learn, wait till the design has been finalised before quoting a price. Anyway, so I was stuck with the price and ended up spending more hours on the mask than what I was going to get paid for. That's life, I guess we sometimes have to learn the hard way.
But despite all that I thoroughly enjoyed making the mask. It was great to try something new. I would have loved to do more detail, but given the time and cost factor that wasn't going to be the case, nevertheless I was happy with the outcome. I wasn't there when the customer picked up her cake, so I couldn't see her reaction to the cake, and I haven't heard back from the customer but I certainly hope they enjoyed it.

Cakes4Kids is born
With recent enquires to hold workshops for kids, I have created Cakes4Kids - Party Workshops as well as Cakes4Kids - Parent & Child workshops.
The Party Workshops are going to be held at the Birthday Girl or Boys home or party venue (if suitable) and the Parent & Child workshops are going to held during the school holidays either at our premises or at times at other suitable premises depending on registration numbers.
So if you are looking for something to do with you young creative cake designer - why not try something new. I have place all the relevant information on the Blog under the heading Cakes4Kids.
And I will soon publish it on my website as I am having a trial run this Monday. If there is another boy or girl over 10 who would like to try out the "Baseball Cap & Handbag" Workshop - contact me soon.

Workshops, Mad Hatter Cakes & Cherry Ripes
Well I spent all of yesterday evening putting the schedule for the first half of the year together on my business website and today I am trying to put the finishing touches on that and catch up on my blog as well.
What a pain it is to get your head around using all these programs, cause I ain't no website design guru.....it does my head in.
But it is all done now, I shall probably tweak it over the next few weeks, so feel free to provide me with some feedback if you think I missed something.
I also baked a cherry ripe mud cake last night. It was supposed to be to practice carving a mad hatter tier. But the cake didn't rise enough.....I had misread the recipe.
I thought the amount was for a 9 inch square cake tin......not so.....It was for a 9 inch round, so I didn't get the height I wanted. So instead Tim and I are going to create a cherry blossom cake - which I am giving as a present to my friend Krystal for her birthday.

I also used Satin Ice for my fondant for the first time. It was great, it didn't dry out anywhere near as fast as the Bakels. Plus there is the added bonus that you can put this fondant in the fridge.
We had a slice with the coffee this evening and the Cherry Ripe flavour is quite delish. I will definately add this as a flavour to my list. yummy
New years resolutions
Well I promised myself that I would try to start using my blog. So today the 2nd of January is the start of my new years resolution together with the cake I created for my Godson's 20th Birthday.
He asked for a white mud cake, so I said yes. I forgot that white chocolate ganache is not ideal to use on a 40 degree day. I got the fondant on only because is is draped to loose....the ganache just hasn't set at all. Never mind I know it will taste good.
This was my first attempt at this cake design by Debbie Brown - the massage cake. I thought it was rather appropriate as Matthew is training to be a physiotherapist. So it is a slight twist on his career....LOL. I hope he can see the humour in it, I am sure that his dad will....
Happy Birthday Matthew
